Tennessee R.E.A.D.S

We are pleased to announce that there are now locally owned books and audiobooks on R.E.A.D.S. Log into your account with your library card and pin numbers, scroll down the page and you will see the tiles. The advantage to you, our patron, is that your wait time on a locally owned books will decrease significantly.

Overdrive recently announced the removal of the Overdrive app from device app stores in February 2022. Patrons will need to transition to using the Libby app. If you need assistance, call or come to the library to speak to a staff member.

Starting on September 29,2021 you will need a 4 digit password to access your account. Call the library and the staff will add a password to your account.

The Clyde W. Roddy Public Library has access to Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. Overdrive which is a state funded online resource to download books, audios and magazines. To access the site you will need to choose our library from the drop down menu and have your library card number and password  available. You can download in a Kindle (Kindle app) or e Pub (Overdrive or Libby app) format. If you have any questions you can call 423-775-8406 or stop by the library.

The option to register for R.E.A.D.S. using a cell phone number is live again on the READS site. OverDrive is providing this from July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022.

  1. The cell registration is active for 12 months and cannot be renewed. At the end of the 12 months the user MUST get a card from a public library in order to continue using READS.
  2. It is possible for a user to sign up for a cell phone registration even though he/she already has a card. If the patron is already using Libby with a library card, the cell phone number must be added to the Libby app by clicking on ‘See Library Cards>Add Another Card” in order for items checked out under the cell number to show up in Libby.
  3. The user can have the cell phone account and the library card account merged by sending an email request to READS support at reads.support@tn.gov. The user must provide the cell number and the library card number in order for the accounts to be merged. Once merged the cell number can no longer be used to checkout from READS.
  4. Since cell registrations are not tied to a library, the circulation from these users are attributed to the entire consortium rather than to a particular library.
  5. Simply having a cell phone number does not mean the person can sign up for READS with it. The billing address for the cell phone number must be located within one of the counties served by the regional system. This means people living in Davidson, Hamilton, Knox and Shelby counties cannot sign up with their cell number. Likewise, people living in another state will also be blocked.
